The Blues have lived a transient life as has Nita B. The daughter of a textile family has lived all over the Southeast and was exposed to many types and variations of music as a child, and it always intrigued her. In the late 90’s Nita B was lucky enough to live in Charlotte, NC, very near The Double Door Inn, where she witnessed many a fine blues performance. Week after week she was truly inspired by the shows & artists she saw. Finally, a big light bulb clicked on and she decided to try out this thing called The Blues. In 2001, Nita B bought a bass, and took it home to her kitchen where she’d cook soup and learn to play and sing. She has experimented with a number of musical styles, but has fallen in love with the jazzy-blues sounds of the 30’s, 40’s, & 50’s. Her music has evolved into Nita B & Her Soirée.
Imagine the Blues of Mississippi’s earliest juke joints venturing out to New Orleans’ Storyville where blues mixed with jazz then traveled north along the Mighty Mississippi River and branched out to Memphis, Kansas City, Chicago and to Harlem’s Cotton Club and beyond. Nita B’s life has had many twists & turns, just like blues & jazz, and it’s no wonder they finally found each other.
