Gal Friday’s synergistic sibling harmonies and bluegrass soul is accented by notes of southern rock comes together to form a style that is undeniably unique and catchy.
“When the sisters of country trio Gal Friday heard the term ‘girl Friday’ described on television, they knew instantly it was the perfect name for their band. ‘A woman on television referred to her best friend as her “girl Friday” – her confidant, her Friday night out, her ride-or-die,’ says member Melissa York. ‘We tweaked it a bit, being from the south – and Gal Friday was born.’”
Gal Friday FAQs
Q. What style of music do you play?
A. Gal Friday plays country/southern rock music.
Q. How many pieces are typically in the band and what instruments are they?
A. We’re a 3-Piece Band (electric bass, electric guitar, full drums) plus 3 vocalists up front.
Q. Do you play in other configurations?
A. Yes, we can skim back to just the vocalists and an acoustic guitar if needed.
Q. Why did you become a professional musician?
A. As sisters, the three of us have sang together our entire life. The idea to pursue music professionally wasn’t actually OUR idea. We had people say to us over and over again “you guys are so good you should totally start a band and do this FOR REAL…” So we did, and it has grown over the last 13 years [as of 2019] into what you see and hear today as Gal Friday.
Q. Where are you located?
A. Charlotte, NC.
Q. Do you travel?
Q. Why should an event professional book you?
A. Gal Friday is a unique band. Our lead singer has got serious pipes with a tone that is truly unmatched, and our three-part harmony as sisters is dynamic. Our band is amazing. Each musician pulls their personal style of playing from a variety of genres. Even though our genre as a band is country/southern rock, those other musical influences create a unique sound that everyone across the span of age groups and diversities tends to enjoy. It’s definitely a compliment when first-time show goers enjoy our original music just as much as the covers we do.
Q. Do you have the capability of providing your own sound & lights?
A. We can provide sound. No staging. No lighting.
