Q. What style of music do you play?
A. Al G. & Friends play multiple genres, including R&B (old and new), classic soul, Motown, Beach, Top 40, and jazz. We create a set list catered to the client.
Q. How many pieces do you typically play as and what instruments are they?
A. Al G & Friends is a 4-6 piece band. Keyboards, lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, and lead vocals.
Q. Do you play in other configurations?
A. Yes, the band can perform as small as 4 pieces up to 8 pieces by adding a horn section.
Q. Why did you become a professional musician?
A. Al Gist (co-owner, lead vocalist, and drummer of the band) watched his mother play the piano at a very early age. He was also exposed to various bands playing in his neighborhood at the time, and would always run to where he heard music playing. As he stood and watched, he became captivated with the drums. He would practice with pots and pans until he received his first drum set, and joined his first band at age 10, but did not begin singing until age 28.
Q. Where are you located?
A. Al & Val live in Mooresville, NC, and the other members of the band live in the Charlotte area.

A. Yes.

The band has a collective 40 years of experience, and its members have shared the stage with renowned artists such as The Chairmen of the Board, The Drifters, The Temptations, Maze & Frankie Beverly, The Commodores, Gladys Knight, and Mary Mary just to name a few.
