Marc Hoffman FAQs
Q. What style of music do you play?
A. As a self-taught pianist and a classically trained composer, I love to play a range of music – jazz, pop, Motown and classical.
Q. How many songs do you typically play & what instruments do you play?
A. Most sets I play are 12 or 15 songs, so a three-hour booking would total 36-45 songs.
Q. Do you play in other configurations?
A. Yes. Most frequent bookings are as a solo pianist and vocalist (wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, corporate, etc.). I also play as a trio, consisting of piano, upright bass and drums. I am often asked to add a sax, guitar or both to the trio and sometimes ukulele for the ceremony.
Q. Why did you become a professional musician?
A. Music is in my blood. My grandmother taught me to play the ukulele when I was six, my mother was a professional performer and teacher, and my father’s side of the family had six members in the symphony orchestra. I started performing in my early teens. Although my degrees are in concert and film composition, my passion for performing keeps me busy playing 100+ performances per year.
Q. Where are you located?
A. Near Charlotte, North Carolina.
Q. Do you travel?
A. My keyboard and I have spent a lot of time traveling the Southeast. My usual coverage is a triangle between Richmond, Atlanta and Asheville. On occasion I will perform 500+ miles away in the US, and also in Canada, the UK and Europe.
Q. Why should an event professional book you?
A. I am flexible and able to adapt and change plans at a moment’s notice. Clients often comment on the range of my repertoire/vocals and professionalism. I have years of experience performing for a variety of events, both as a soloist and with my trio, and that experience has prepared me to handle any occasion. I love to personalize my playlists for clients and am happy to include any new songs and pieces, often arranging them myself.
Q. Do you have the capability of providing your own sound & lights?
A. I provide my own sound, and I travel with minimal lighting.
