Province of Thieves FAQs
Q. What style of music do you play?
A. Province Of Thieves performs, simplest description…folk music. Can also attach the labels: Urban Folk, Americana, Acoustic Folk/Rock/Pop, Singer-songwriter style. We are careful NOT to call ourselves “bluegrass” as that particular genre, though similar, does not feature percussion…and we DO have percussion. We are often mislabeled as a bluegrass band, although we consider ourselves “bluegrass friendly,” so to speak.
Q. How many pieces do you typically play as and what instruments are they?
A. We are a five-piece band. Our rhythm section features upright bass and percussion. Our three lead vocalists also play a combination of instruments including: guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, bouzouki and dobro. All instrumentation is fully acoustic (but sound system capable).
Q. Do you play in other configurations?
A. Sometimes, we don’t advertise it, but we are open to performing as a duo or trio if there is specific request for that.
Q. Why did you become a professional musician?
A. To badly quote somebody else, “…if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” While we won’t claim to be fully “pro” musicians by strict definition, we certainly would say we’re semi-pro. The band was founded by a full-time banker and a supply chain manager to pursue their dream of making some noise via a successful musical side-hustle. We’ve been at this now, performing as Province Of Thieves, for ten years!
Q. Where are you located?
A. Charlotte metro area. To be more specific, we rehearse in Stallings, NC but members of the band hail from all over the Charlotte area.
Q. Do you travel?
A. Yes, we perform all over North and South Carolina, mountains to coast. Willing to travel further if the finances warrant.
Q. Why should an event professional book you?
A. We provide a full service musical performance delivery for our clients. This includes sound, lighting, stage visuals and a well-rehearsed group of musicians. Clients looking for great crowd-friendly music, but “not ear-splitting loud” often find that our all-acoustic performance perfectly fits their constraints.
Q. Do you have the capability of providing your own sound & lights?
A. Absolutely! We have a professional sound rig including Allen and Heath soundboard, QSC loud speakers, sub unit and monitoring. We also provide stage lighting and stage banners for professional visual presentation.
