So what does “dueling pianos” mean, anyway?
Dueling piano entertainment evolved from ragtime-era pianists battling for a crowd’s attention and tips. The more modern concept was born and named in the 1940s at Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans, where the owners purchased two baby grand pianos for performers to entertain by taking requests for tips.
Cool, so what’s it like?
If you were to step into a piano lounge right now, you’d experience a party atmosphere. You might hear fun versions of classic rock, Top 40, and country songs, sing-alongs, and a touch of comedy between (or during) tunes. Guests can make requests and interact with the performers all night, and they should! This isn’t a typical concert or background music.
What does Signature Keys bring to the table?
Because the show is heavily influenced by the audience’s requests and participation, each one is different from the next. Therefore, it takes a highly skilled, experienced, and charismatic pair of musicians to pull one off, and that’s where Signature Keys Dueling Pianos comes in.
Our long-time pros have entertained local and regional markets for years on their own. The tipping point came when they started getting hired from out of state to play in their hometown. Signature Keys was born in an effort to make event professionals aware that dueling pianists can be hired in North Carolina.
Available configurations include the traditional dueling piano duo, and the trio which includes a drummer. Performers will provide piano shells, keyboards, and can provide sound if needed.
