Shelley Ruffin FAQs

Q. What style of music do you play?

A. Variety, including soul, rock, blues, pop, country and jazz.

Q. How many pieces do you typically play as and what instruments are they?

A. Band can be configured to your needs with anything from a duo, trio to full band with or without a horn section.

Q. Do you play in other configurations?

A. Yes, we can scale down to as small as a duo or trio. My full band is typically 5 pieces but can be as many as 8 to 10 pieces if needed including a horn section for a full party band. Duo shows are usually acoustic guitar and vocals and trio can be configured many different ways from acoustic guitar with stand-up bass providing an elegant feel for corporate events, weddings etc. Or I can also configure an electric trio with drums and or bass and guitar or keys for something more lively.

Q. Why did you become a professional musician?

A. Music has been in my life from day one and has a special place in my heart. I grew up in Memphis, TN, a very musical city immersed in soul, blues, rock and southern gospel. Music was a constant in my house! We had a large and very diverse record collection and my father was always singing with me at home, in the car and taking me to shows. My grandfather was a touring musician, songwriter and big band leader, who played guitar and banjo. And, my brother is a touring drummer.
I love music and performing. I want people to not just hear what I’m singing but more importantly to feel it. That’s what music is about, pulling people in, touching their heart, changing their mood or taking them back to a certain place in time. Being a professional musician allows me the ability to do those things. It’s a huge part of who I am and I believe it is what I am supposed to be doing.

Q. Where are you located?

A. Charlotte, NC.

Q. Do you travel?

A. Yes, on average travel time is usually about 3 to 4 hours away. But, I am totally willing to travel further, when circumstances allow.

A. I bring to the table many years of professional experience and can play to any type of need. From laid back acoustic music to a full party band. My band configurations are comprised of the top tier musicians in Charlotte, most of who have toured or played with major artists and several who have won or been Grammy nominated! I have the ability to read the crowd and can make changes as needed, to our song list, so you can be assured that your event will be a success!

Q. Do you have the capability of providing your own sound & lights?
